New ISO Standards have been developed to provide enhanced protection of workplace personnel and the public by specifying the required vision for Operators of Earthmoving Machinery- 360 deg around the machine. The ISO 5006 clearly states: "The purpose of this International Standard is to address operator's visibility in such a manner that the operator can see around the machine to enable proper, effective and safe operation that can be quantified in objective engineering terms". Orlaco Camera Viewing Solutions- increased Safety, Productivity and Damage Control. The range of Camera Solutions is extensive and purpose designed for all sorts of heavy duty applications, vehicles and equipment utilised in such industries as: Mining, Transport, Chemical Plants, Off- shore platforms, Warehousing, Ports, Ships, Construction, Emergency / Fire Fighting, Municipal (eg. Sweepers, Garbage Trucks) and many others. Safety / Environment: Daily there is growing concern and reports of accidents involving inadequate viewing conditions. LSM Technologies Orlaco Cameras provide enhanced viewing, clarity of image and reliability in industrial applications which assist in increasing Workplace Safety. Also, workplace repetitive strain injuries related to the back and neck are quite common among drivers and camera viewing systems make a large contribution to reducing and eliminating such injuries. LSM’s Orlaco Camera Viewing Solutions also assist in the reduction of driver fatigue, viewing in poor light conditions, elimination of blind spots, clear viewing at extreme distances (eg Cranes). "There are other devices in the market place using radar or ultrasound such as backup sensors but these have extensive failings such as false alarming, failure (one only knows when the system has failed- after an event) in addition they make a lot of noise". “A Camera System provides the driver / operator with a “view” of the surroundings and so there is no guessing or complacency. Also they are a “quiet solution”, especially for transport and municipal applications that operate in residential areas". Productivity. Productivity can also be increased- safely. Time studies on cranes operating with and without a camera system found the operating speed of the crane was 22% better with the camera. In warehousing environments more that 20% increase in pallet movements can be attained. Vehicles in Transport / Distribution / Mining increase in productivity as reversing is completed more quickly and safely. Shell in the UK developed a Safety Tanker concept and with the use of Camera Viewing Systems was able to gain up to 10 minutes per delivery, with a total gain of 1 x day / week increase in productivity. Damage Control. Damage control is also a massive saving provided by Orlaco Camera Viewing Solutions. In the Mining Industry using a three (or four- all sides) camera system to view the blind side, rear and front of a dump truck enhances the drivers viewing conditions, avoiding damage to the vehicle from debris on the haulage roads and just as important, can save on tyre wear and damage. Reversing is completed safely and more quickly without damage to retaining walls. Correct alignment of side / end tipping trailers avoids hydraulic and hopper damage as well as spillage on to the roadway. Damage to pallets and racking by forklifts is also reduced dramatically in warehouse environments. The majority of crane lifts are completed blind, more than 70% of transport / delivery vehicle damage is a result of rear collision. Reduction in damaged containers, increased stacking heights and movements are all gains for Port vehicles and handling equipment. The list can go on and on..!
