LSM Technologies has been invited to present on the ISO Standards 5006 / 16001- Earthmoving Equipment / Operators Visibility at the 2009 Queensland Mining Industry Health and Safety Conference, which will convene in Townsville from the 23rd to 26th August.

Extract from the Program by Mr Stewart Bell Chairman Queensland Mining Industry Health and Safety Conference 2009:

The 2009 Conference theme is ‘Safety and Health - everyone’s business’, one which will resonate with each and every stakeholder in our industry, especially during these most stressful of times.

In 2008, over 700 people attended the conference, attesting to its relevance to the mining industry.  With the challenging times we are all facing due to the global economic downturn, it is arguably even more important that we continue to try to reach more people, encouraging them to attend and to keep safety and health in the front of our minds.

Stressful times require positive action and therefore this year the conference will focus on how we can provide the tools and deliver the mindset to keep the workplace safe and healthy during one of the most difficult periods in our history.

Whilst it has been reported that Queensland’s mining industry achieved its best safety performance on record in 2007-2008, the industry cannot rest on its laurels; indeed this fact only serves to raise the bar for the safety performance of Queensland’s mining companies and their employees.

Highlights from the program this year will be presentations on legislation harmonisation, input from safety experts in other industry sectors and papers from mining industry leaders who will share their experiences and expertise with us.

This will be particularly relevant in these current difficult economic times.Innovations continue to be a major feature of the conference with the annual awards recognising the ingenuity and skills of the inventors, most of whom come from mine sites around Queensland.Safety and health cannot be ignored in tough economic times and we must remain cognisant that safety and health and productivity are not mutually exclusive.

In recent years we have had excellent safety and health outcomes and the focus of this conference must be on maintaining that trend on the road to zero harm. The value of networking should not be overlooked, most would agree how important this is as we rarely have the opportunity to spend any time with our colleagues
